香港已經回歸十七年，與一個半世紀的殖民地時代相比，香港社會有了顯著變化，過去困擾多時的社會矛盾如華洋關係、中英關係等淡出，曾經隱而不發的問題則浮上了水面。這些矛盾關係的變化，成為制約香港進一步發展的瓶頸，以至糾紛頻生的重要原因。

研究香港問題近三十年的陳麗君教授，從經濟、社會、施政、市民與政府關係、香港與內地關係等多個角度，以豐富的資料探討、梳理回歸以來香港政治經濟社會關係的變化，分析十七年來香港社會矛盾演變和深化的源頭，並且提出解決問題的方向。
