本書主要探討六朝時期文人士大夫書籍知識學習的情形

　　分兩部分進行論述。第一部分著重在家庭經學教育方面，漢魏六朝時期的家庭經學教育主要包含專業科目教育、基礎通識教育兩個階段，在家庭中進行的經學專業科目傳授學習，也就是一般所謂的家學。基礎通識教育則是探討一般兒童若要習讀經書傳記之屬，會先選擇哪些書來讀？

　　第二部分則針對知識學習中的博學風氣，首先分析兩漢、六朝時期士人博學內容的轉變，由經史傳記為主，逐漸擴展到無書不讀。而後從實際需求這一層面入手，分別就政治、社會文化、學術思想與文史著述等四個方面，探索六朝時期博學風氣的形成因素。這四個方面相輔相成，涵蓋了六朝士人生活的各個主要層面，呈現了六朝博學風氣的廣泛流行和豐富內涵。
