進入1990年代後，隨著計算機資訊處理技術的快速發展，網路應用科技已然全面介入人類社會生活的各種層面。時至今日，我們可以說，資訊化社會已然全面來臨。1955年，班雅明（Walter Benjamin）的〈機械複製時代的藝術作品〉開頭即引述梵樂希的觀察，指出新科技與藝術變衍之間的必然關係：「科技的驚人成長、業已臻至的適應力與準確度，以及所造就的想法和習性，鐵定給傳統藝術帶來深遠的改變……，物質、時空皆已不同於往昔，我們勢必得預期偉大創新的出現，足以改變整個藝術技巧，並進而影響藝術創造，甚或給藝術觀念帶來蛻變。」
