《象牙戒指》是作者以好友石评梅与高君宇凄婉悲凉的爱情为原型，以一对象牙戒指为线索，写北京的一个女大学生张沁珠和曹子卿的悲剧，作者以悲哀、苍凉的笔触描写了一段动人心弦的爱情悲剧。
庐隐（1898-1934），原名黄淑仪，又名黄英，生于福建闽侯。1921年加入文学研究会。1925年出版第一本小说集《海滨故人》。1927年任北京市立女子第一中学校长半年，几年间，母亲、丈夫、哥哥和挚友石评梅先后逝世，悲哀情绪浸透在这个时期出版的作品集《灵海潮汐》和《曼丽》之中。她的作品多以青年人的爱情婚姻为题材，以女知识青年为主人公，写她们对爱情的追求。
