柔石（1902-1931），小说家，左联五烈士之一，原名赵平复，浙江宁海人，1918年入杭州第一师范学校，1923年毕业后从事教育工作并开始文学创作。1928年到上海从事进步文学活动，曾编辑《语丝》，在鲁迅的支持下创办朝花文学社，1930年参加中国左翼作家联盟，任常务委员和编辑部主任，同年加入中国共产党，1931年2月被国民党杀害于上海龙华。主要作品有短篇集《疯人》、《希望》，中篇《三姊妹》、《二月》，长篇《旧时代之死》，诗剧《人间的喜剧》等，其代表作有《为奴隶的母亲》、《二月》等。《二月》是柔石的代表作，也是现代文学的经典之作。作品反映了大革命失败以后青年知识分子找不到出路的苦闷和彷徨。
