才学小说《蟫史》是第一部文言长篇章回小说，由清中叶作家屠绅创作。由于作者使用典雅、古奥的文言，造成其文风“古涩艳异，晦其义旨”。鲁迅曾说：“欲于小说见其才藻之美者，则有屠绅《蟫史》二十卷。”《蟫史》以清代少数民族（主要是苗民）起义为背景，描写了官军与起义军的多次交锋。最后以官军的胜利、义军的失败而告终。战争场面的描写中，作者吸收了神魔小说斗法斗宝的写法，虽文字古奥，却带有神奇的色彩。
