《花月痕》是我国第一部以妓女为主要人物的长篇小说，写韩荷生、韦疾珠与青楼女子杜采秋、刘秋痕的爱情故事。书中的韩荷生才兼文武，屡见奇功，终得封侯，杜采秋也受一品夫人封典；韦疾珠则怀才不遇，穷困潦倒，落得个一病身亡，刘秋痕也自缢殉情。作者通过这一穷一达两对人物的描写，寄托了自己的不平和追求。其中关于韦、刘二人的描写，凄婉动人，颇具艺术感染力。
