趙錫麟大使於學成歸國後，隨即派駐於利比亞及沙烏地阿拉伯擔任我國駐館大使，也曾擔任利比亞大學外國學生學院講師。2012年正式從外交部退休，目前則擔任中國回教協會顧問，並於國立交通大學講授伊斯蘭文明課程。 本訪談錄主旨在以其個人的求學、工作過程為主軸，綜合性的說明中華民國遷臺後穆斯林族群的信仰內涵、與發展傳承。因為趙大使的專長領域為「阿拉伯、中東與伊斯蘭事務」，所以本書之成，對於國人在這個領域的理解頗多貢獻。
