刘沅（1767～1855），祖籍湖北麻城刘家沟，先祖于明末迁蜀。刘沅出生于双流云栖里，嘉庆十二年(1807) 迁居成都淳化街。因刘沅在双流和成都的书塾中均有一株古槐，故世称刘沅为“槐轩先生”，其学为“槐轩之学”。刘沅是学问大家，现存著述逾200卷。本书作者2010年开始以槐轩学派的学术思想作为研究对象，以刘沅所关怀之社会历史问题为轴心展开探讨，阐明其逾出当时知识界义理与考据之争的真正深意，在于重建社会整体性的价值信念系统。
