台泥前董事長辜成允，生前全力支持成立「辜嚴倬雲植物保種中心」，以三萬種植物蒐藏已成全世界最豐富的活體植物保存庫。保種中心展開「百種興盛行動」，要以三年時間搶救一百種珍稀植物，廣邀社會認養，讓這些原已野外滅絕或瀕臨滅絕的物種能大量增殖，種回原棲地或廣送世界各植物園繁衍。聯合報系率先響應，認養百種植物中的「台灣萬代蘭」。此台灣特有種已野外滅絕，但保種中心成功繁殖；三年內將繁殖到五百株以上。
