"中國文學史上所謂的「六朝」，係指魏晉以降迄於隋末。這段時期無論是詩歌、辭賦、小說、文學批評等，都有不錯的發展。尤其小說中「志性」類，至今仍為後人所津津樂道，廣為流傳。

《搜神託》是六朝志怪小說中最具代表性的一部作品，本書故事皆出於此。蔡志忠先生選取其中十九則最具寓意的故事，於是我們在鬼狐的身上，見到了人的情感。雖是漫畫「搜神」，實為人性「蒐身」。

六朝小說以「志怪」為書名者，有祖台之、曹毗、孔氏、殖民四家。後世學者以「志性」一詞為搜奇志異類小說的通稱，當起於明代胡應麟。
