《中國史綱》是張蔭麟先生短暫一生留下的惟一專著，原爲作者受聘編寫的高中歷史教材的一部分。作者依據自己的歷史觀對東漢前的中國史實作了較爲嚴格的選擇和取捨，把前人研究成果和自己「玩索所得」融會貫通，用講故事的方式寫出期間社會的變遷、思想的貢獻及若干重大人物的性格和活動。章節安排簡要得當，文字技巧活潑動人，思想智慧透徹通達，隨時流露出作者的才情與用心。
張蔭麟
（1905—1942），號素痴，亦常作筆名，廣東東莞人。著名學者；歷史學家。1923年考入清華學堂中等科三年級肄業，以「史、學、才」三才識為人稱道。後赴美留學，歸國後在清華大學、西南聯大、浙江大學等任教。學貫中西，兼通文史哲，後專門從事歷史學教授研究，多有創見。
