张廷玉(1672-1755)，字衡臣，号砚斋，安徽桐城人。他历经康雍乾三朝，二十九岁被康熙选为庶吉士三十二岁授翰林院检讨，随后便平步青云，成了康熙的近臣。张廷玉真正发迹是在雍正一朝。立志改革的雍正，使他在官场上如鱼得水。雍正性猜忌，但独独相信张廷玉。乾隆登基后，张廷玉就逐渐从荣誉的最高峰上滑落。但他是清代汉臣获配享太庙的第一人，并开清代文臣封侯伯之先例。
