清末買辦資本家，安徽績溪人，原名胡光墉，字雪岩。初在杭州開銀號。鹹豐十一年從上海運軍火接濟杭州清軍，被太平軍擊退。次年又助左宗棠組織“常捷軍”。同治五年協助左宗棠辦福州船政局。左宗棠調任陝甘總督，他在上海為之采運軍火、籌供軍餉，代借內外債一千二百餘萬兩。依靠湘軍權勢，還在江、浙、湘、鄂各省設阜康銀號及當鋪二十餘處，在杭州開餘慶堂中藥店，並經營出口絲業，獲大利。光緒十年，洋商集中力量與之在絲業上競爭，他掙扎年餘，終被排擠破產。
