經過一九五○年代的急速發展及人口增長，自一九六○年代起香港經濟及社會發展進入了路途崎嶇但高速增長的黃金階段。雖然發展中的香港偶或遇上逆境，例如一九六六、六七年的動盪、一九八四年中英就香港前途談判帶來的憂慮，但也有順境之時，例如經濟因工業發展而大幅增長，市民生活逐漸改善，基礎建設也漸次完成。
鄭寶鴻，一九四零年代末出生，香港歷史愛好者，錢幣、郵票、歷史照片、明信片等的收藏者，對香港殖民地時期、日治時期的歷史及文化、地方誌等有專家級認識，常獲邀就香港歷史掌故題材演講。現為香港歷史博物館、香港文化博物館及香港大學美術博物館名譽顧問、香港錢幣研究會副會長兼義務秘書、香港郵票錢幣商會副會長及香港收藏家協會名譽顧問。

著有《圖片香港郵票》、《港島街道百年》、《九龍街道百年》、《新界街道百年》、《香江知味︰香港的早期飲食場所》、《香江冷月：香港的日治時代》、《消失中的城市建築 — 香港歷史圖像精選1880s-1990s》、《百年香港華人娛樂》、《百年香港慶典盛事》、《默默向上游 — 香港五十年代社會影像》、《幾許風雨 — 香港早期社會影像1911-1950》、《此時彼刻︰中西區百年繁華》等。
