很少人知道，中国著名“人民音乐家”冼星海（1905-1945）童年时期在新加坡生活了十年，而且在养正学校度过了他人生中很重要的几年。这几年，对冼星海往后的音乐生涯，有着非常重要的影响。
  作者何乃强医生对冼星海的一生有过认真的探究。作为冼星海的“校友”，他花了几年的时间收集、阅读有关文章与资料，作为考证，然后综合、分析、归纳和有系统整理资料，编写了这本《冼星海在新加坡十年》，作为冼星海生平史料的补遗，并纠正了一些史料与电视剧的谬误。
  作者相信，本书的文字记录能够为冼星海幼年在新加坡的史迹填补空白，为中国的文化历史作出必要的补遗。
