面對過於積極求勝的清春，隊長及部分隊友不堪負荷，於是開始串聯，決定解散老虎隊，不知情的清春在遭逢如此大的打擊之後，卻意外收到日本殘障籃球聯盟的來信，通知清春被選為日本代表隊的候補選手…
1967年1月12日出生於鹿兒島縣。1988年以《紫色的楓》出道。1990年開始連載的作品《灌籃高手》，於2004年在日本國內發行突破一億冊。後來，1998年發表以宮本武藏為題材的漫畫《浪人劍客》，隔年1999年再推出以輪椅籃球競賽為題材的《REAL》，其中，《浪人劍客》更獲得了日本文化廳媒體藝術祭漫畫部門大賞，以及手塚治虫文化賞漫畫大賞等獎項，堪稱為日本當代漫畫大師。
