Tilapia has become the shining star of the aquaculture and as such this fish could become the biggest food phenomenon of this century by eventually overtaking the widely cultured carp. Tilapias are having a much wider distribution of production and consumption and a huge base of value added product forms. This fish will surely be the "aqutic chicken" in the world of "aquatic poultry". Like the poultry chicken, the tilapias are meeting the protein needs of the world population by crossing even all the boundaries of cultural, religious, and economic groups. Moreover it is a fact that in the near future a delicious dish by the exotic name "Tilapia" could be gracing the dining tables if intensive fishing continues to deplete the world's stocks.
