「蔣中正總統檔案」即俗稱的「大溪檔案」，主要含括1923年至1971年間，蔣氏統軍主政時期有關政治、外交、軍事、財經、文教、社會、交通等各方面文件資料。其中，《事略稿本》係蔣氏的秘書參閱相關函電令告及節抄蔣氏日記，以仿「春秋」以事繫日，以日繫月，以月繫年的記述方式編撰而成。起迄年代，自1927年至1949年，總計274冊。
《蔣中正總統檔案─事略稿本》雖非蔣氏親筆函，但由於書稿內容多采自蔣氏函電令告及其日記，往往能呈現一般電文所無法說明的內心想法，進一步地擴大蔣氏研究的廣度與深度；而編年體的記述方式，除了提供史事的精確日期外，更能釐清歷史事件與蔣氏決策過程的關聯性，故極具參考價值。鑑於此，本館特別成立編輯小組，以原件掃描方式存實，積極進行《事略稿本》的出版工作，並於書末附錄電碼韻目對照表，人名字號索引，以利讀者查閱，希望對民國史學界有所助益。
