多音字被某些人称为“汉语的怪胎”，浪费了汉语学习、使用者的大量宝贵时间，严重影响了汉语走向国际。
不管哪一种语言，没有多音字都是一种理想的状况，字形和读音应当关联起来。比如写成“缘份”读yuánfèn，写成“缘分”就读yuánfēn。也就是说，“分”没必要成为多音字。再比如，把“校对”用作“较对”，“奇数”用作“畸数”，“叶音”用作“谐音”，“无色无臭”用作“无色无嗅”，“暴虎冯河”用作“暴虎凭 河”，无论从字义上还是读音上，都没有任何问题。
