故事內容：

老人桑地雅哥，每天出海捕魚，卻接連八十四天裡一無所獲，沒捕捉到半條魚駕著空蕩蕩的小漁船返家，有村民說他正在走霉運，所以才會如此.......

但是，有一天，他孤伶伶地獨自在灣流裡捕魚時，他卻突然遇到了頑強的對手——一條巨大的馬林魚，他是否能夠擊敗牠，然後帶著大魚風風光光地返家呢？而他在回航的大海途中，將會遭遇到兇猛搶奪的鯊魚，他能安然度過危險嗎？
