在山西曲沃县城城贡院街竖立着一座奇巧的四面牌楼，三重檐十字歇山顶，上覆黄绿相间琉璃瓦，全楼三层十一小楼。既有江南楼阁精巧纤绣、玲珑剔透之俊秀，又有北方古建筑的大气敦厚、雄浑巍峨之壮观。其构思之精，工艺之巧，造形之美，可称三绝，此乃明朝李济沆思母所建。
本书从明朝李济沆的出生写起直到其生命结束，描述了其悲情一生。全书立意高超、文笔自然、感情深沉，悲剧色彩浓重。既有母爱的温暖，更有失去的至痛；既有爱情的激动，更有不能放手的决绝。
全书行文情节紧凑、心理描写细腻，文笔自然，感情烘托顺畅而极具张力、催人泪下。特别是结尾，虽然是明知道结局，但还是让人不能放手，确实突破了“情理之中、意料之外”的境界。
匝瑜，力作型作家，作品范围极其宽泛，长篇抗战史实巨作《血壮山河》，长篇历史小说《望母楼》，中篇《断情》、《广进寺》、《2250年的幸福生活》等等，涉猎历史考据、都市爱情、历史演义、虚构讽刺等各方面。
