《論契合——比較文學研究集》是王佐良先生於上世紀40年代後期和80年代前期從事比較文學研究時用英文撰寫的11篇論文，1985年由外研社集結出版，是其在比較文學方面的鼎力之作，探討的中心問題是20世紀中西方文學間的“契合”關係。“契合”二字十分貼切地描述了不同文化間相互影響、相互滲透的關係，這一概念的提出，是對比較文學研究的重大貢獻。此書出版後，受到中外學術界的一致歡迎和高度評價，並榮獲北京市首屆“哲學社會學和政策研究優秀成果榮譽獎”和“比較文學圖書榮譽獎”等獎項。
王佐良（1916—1995），學者、詩人、翻譯家，浙江上虞人。專於英國文學和中西文學比較研究。曾任北京外國語學院副院長、外國文學研究所所長，《外國文學》主編，國務院學位委員會外國文學評議組組長，全國政協委員，中國莎士比亞學會副會長，中國英語教學研究會會長等職。主要代表作有《英國文學史》、《英國詩史》、《英國散文的流變》、《莎士比亞緒論》等。
