"誰說大牌檔寫無可寫，且看下列的新發現：
1921年，首個持牌大牌檔誕生。 1936年，市政局甫成立，「殺檔」隨之展開。 1945年後，抗日英雄獲恩恤發放大牌檔牌照。 1956年，「雙十暴動」期間，大牌檔進駐警署提供二十四小時餐飲服務。 1960年，標準設計大牌檔刊憲，通行至今。 1966年，合法化行之已久的兩枱八凳安排。

1971年，落實單一繼承人制度，影響至今。 1983年，大牌檔跌至千檔以下。 2011年，中環大牌檔大變身的來龍去脈。

首個持牌大牌檔誕生至今幾近一個世紀，險渡多少趟「殺檔」潮，看它差不多給消滅殆盡，卻又有幸獲邀進駐警署，盡是離奇曲折，或許這根本就是歷史的真諦。借助大牌檔的發展，作者帶你細味香港大城小景，品嚐經過發酵及沉澱的歷史，代替一窩蜂擠到大牌檔吃麵留念。
