華語拼音以q、v、w、x四個專用字母標聲調，與其他拼音方案相比，具有輸入方便(能用通用鍵盤直接輸入所有字母)、音節簡短、排序準確、查詢快捷、音界明確(不需要隔音符號)、拼式科學的優勢。
包括專用標調字母在內不超出英語26個字母的範圍，既符合現行註音、拼音方案的使用習慣，又能與國際音標相符，全面接近其他國際流行語言的常規字音拼寫規範，易學易記，能由電腦自動正確排序。由其他拼音的單音節最多6個音母減少到4個；由其他拼音的單音節平均3.23個音母降至2.77個，是漢語中目前唯一符合國際音標規則的方案。既可用於漢語字音和聲調的標註，又可與國際語言文字完全接軌。
華語拼音的排序為(有區別的漢語拼音音頭字母附在括號內)：A、B、C、Ch(Q)、Cr(Ch)、D、E、F、G、H、I(Y)、J、K、L、M、N、O、P、R、S、Sh(X)、Sr(Sh)、T、U(W)、Y(Yu)、Z、Zr(Zh)。
